The measurement is done using a Pycnometer (calibrated volumetric flask) following ASTM D854.<\/p>\n<p>This test cannot be used for soil solids which can be altered by this method, contaminated with a substance that prohibits the use of this method, or for highly organic soil solids, such as fibrous matter, which floats in water.<\/p>\n<p>Precision and bias are determined to judge the acceptability of the test results.
