In 2008, our full-service laboratory in Thunder Bay, Ontario, became operational. This facility initially provided large volume sample preparation, fire assay with both gravimetric and atomic absorption (AAS), and multi-element ICP-OES analysis and assays.
In 2010 and 2011, we expanded our Thunder Bay operation by acquiring an additional 36,000 sq. ft. of space, bringing the total to 80,000 sq. ft. overall, across four buildings. The additional space became a new and modern laboratory facility, housing a greatly expanded wet chemistry lab, several large analytical laboratories, and a metallurgical laboratory and testing facility.
Our centralized facility can accommodate a greater number of analytical instruments so that we can achieve greater efficiency and increase sample throughput. Our facility now contains two new Perkin-Elmer Sciex Elan ICP-MS instruments (Elan 9000 and Elan DRC-e), two new Panalytical Axios Advanced XRF instruments, five Agilent 735 ICP-OES instruments, and two Varian 240 Atomic Absorption spectrometers. Our metallurgical department houses a full range of testing equipment, specifically geared towards mineral liberation, concentration, and beneficiation.
